Hotel Description
Sacher hotel
The Hotel Sacher - opened in 1876 by Eduard Sacher, son of the creator of the Original Sacher-Torte - is an Austrian institution. The stunning neoclassical facade is traditional in design with awnings in the hotel colours and huge flags representing some of the many nationalities who stay there. Crystal chandeliers, oil paintings, marble stucco and brocaded curtains in the public rooms evoke the atmosphere of Old Vienna. The intimate lobby leads directly onto the bar and lounge area, which has dark wood panelling and features an impressive traditional design. The 152 large guestrooms are all individually appointed with elegant antiques and feature original paintings by renowned artists. They are immaculately maintained, as are the en suite bathrooms. The hotel’s “Anna Sacher” restaurant serves both international cuisine and regional dishes in a glamorous “Jugendstil” ambience, lit by Vienna’s first electric chandeliers. The “Café Sacher”, meanwhile, is the home of the world’s most famous chocolate cake, the Original Sacher-Torte: an exquisite chocolate cake with a thin layer of apricot jam, its recipe dating from 1832. The Sacher-Torte’s success has spread the reputation of the Café Sacher far beyond the borders of Austria and even today all cakes are produced in the hotel’s in-house bakery.
