Gellert Hotel
Originally opened in 1918, the Gellért Hotel is housed in a sprawling Art Nouveau building. The large, circular lobby is distinguished by marble columns and a mezzanine level, but is otherwise decorated in a fairly plain style. Due to the age of the building, the 234 guestrooms vary considerably in size, layout decoration and furnishing, but most are appointed in a traditional style. The condition of the rooms varies as well, with some looking quite tired and lacking air conditioning. The hotel offers various dining options. The Panorama Restaurant and its charming terrace offer superb views of the Danube and Budapest. During the summer months guests are also treated to live entertainment in the evenings, courtesy of a gypsy orchestra and folklore shows. The menu features great specialities of international cuisine as well as masterpieces of Hungarian cooking. Alternatively, the recently renovated Brasserie offers anyone dropping in – whether alone, with family or company – light meals and a broad range of draught, bottled and speciality beers. Meanwhile, the Gellért Espresso is a real temptation for all those who find themselves unable to resist home-made cakes or pastries and freshly made coffee or tea. The hotel is also famous for its spa baths and thermal facilities. They are among the most famous in Hungary. In summer, the outdoor pool with sun bathing area and wave machine proves extremely popular with residents and locals alike. |
