City hotel Matyas
The City Hotel Matyas was recently commended in the British "Wish You Were Here" television travel programme. Established above the famed Matthias Cellar Restaurant, it is housed in a turn-of-the-century, Neoclassical style building. All 80 guestrooms have en suite bathrooms with showers and some have breathtaking views over Buda Castle and the Danube. The Matthias Cellar Restaurant, named after the great Hungarian king Matthias, opened at the Pest side of the Danube by Elizabeth Bridge in 1904. It serves authentic Hungarian fish soup, Dorozsma carp, Matthias platter, strudels and so on. These dishes are accompanied by the finest wines of the country and Gypsy music played by members of Lakatos Dynasty at midday and in the evening. The restaurant's beautiful stained glass windows and frescoes recount scenes from the life of King Matthias. Waiters and waitresses serve at table dressed in period costume. |
